Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bharatmata Sarovar in Dudhala, Gujarat, a monumental water conservation project led by Padma Shri Savji Dholakia and the Dholakia Foundation. This landmark initiative not only aims to address rural water security but also celebrates India’s heritage and honours its war heroes. With its vast reservoir and accompanying War Memorial, the Bharatmata Sarovar embodies both patriotism and sustainable development, symbolizing India’s commitment to its people and natural resources.
A National Tribute with Lasting Impact
Bharatmata Sarovar, with its capacity of over 941 million litres, stands as a significant achievement in India’s water conservation efforts. The reservoir also houses a War Memorial, paying tribute to the valour of 21 Param Vir Chakra recipients, intertwining the reverence for Bharat Mata with the honour given to the nation’s defenders. This dual-purpose site reflects the values of environmental stewardship and respect for India’s heroes, aimed at fostering a sense of unity and responsibility towards the country’s heritage and ecology.
The Inauguration Ceremony: A Warm Welcome for PM Modi
Prime Minister Modi was welcomed to the site by Dr. Savji Dholakia and his brothers—Himmat, Tulsi, and Ghanshyam Dholakia—who guided him through the foundation's sprawling conservation efforts. During the ceremony, the Prime Minister visited the nearby Hare Krishna Sarovar and officially inaugurated the Bharatmata Sarovar, commending the Dholakia Foundation’s dedication to transforming barren land into a sustainable resource. “The Bharatmata Sarovar represents a remarkable synergy between communities, industries, and government efforts to foster sustainable practices in rural development. It stands as a symbol of our enduring commitment to preserving India’s precious water resources for the generations to come,” Modi remarked in his address.
Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister joined the Dholakia family in visiting Table Point, where he observed the plantation of 50,000 organic mango trees. This reforestation project highlights the foundation’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and environmental resilience.
Expanding Conservation Efforts through Virtual Inaugurations
The event also included the virtual inauguration of five additional village lakes and the rejuvenation of four rivers—Saraswati, Gagadiya, Kalwa, and Ghelo. These initiatives, managed by the Dholakia Foundation and Mission River Worldwide, align with the Prime Minister’s Jal Shakti Abhiyan and reflect a concerted effort to secure water resources and promote ecological sustainability across India.
A Personal Bond and Shared Vision
Bharatmata Sarovar is more than a conservation project; it represents a shared vision of a self-reliant and sustainable India between Prime Minister Modi and Savji Dholakia. During his speech, Modi recalled a memorable promise made in Dudhala years earlier, to return and enjoy a traditional meal with the Dholakia family, underscoring the deep personal connection between the Prime Minister and the foundation. This bond reflects a mutual commitment to the ideals of rural development, environmental sustainability, and national pride.
Hari Krishna Exports and PM Modi: A Legacy of Progress
Savji Dholakia’s Hari Krishna Exports has maintained a longstanding relationship with PM Modi, who inaugurated the company’s HK Hub in 2017, planting a “Tree of Progress” as a testament to sustainable growth. In 2018, he honoured 1,700 HK employees at the Skilled Incentive Ceremony, promoting the company’s commitment to employee welfare. Modi’s encouragement inspired Hari Krishna Exports to provide Diwali gifts of homes, cars, and jewellery to employees, symbolizing a shared dedication to economic empowerment.
A Commitment to a Greener Future
Hari Krishna Exports has been a leader in ethical business practices and environmental initiatives, and the Bharatmata Sarovar inauguration is another step in the company’s mission to create a sustainable legacy for future generations. “The Bharatmata Sarovar is the realization of a dream to serve the earth and the people who depend on it. With the Prime Minister’s support, we are taking a significant step toward creating a sustainable future,” Savji Dholakia stated.
