Jaipur's gems and jewellery industry has launched a collaborative pilot training program to address the growing demand for skilled artisans in gemstone cutting and polishing
Leading stakeholders in Jaipur’s renowned gems and jewellery industry have come together to address the sector's increasing need for skilled artisans. In a collaborative effort, GJEPC’s Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ) Jaipur, Jewellers Association Jaipur (JAJ), Sitapura Gems and Jewellery Industry Association (SGJIA), and Jaipur Jewellery Show (JJS) have launched a pilot training program focused on gemstone cutting and polishing.
A Collaborative Approach
This groundbreaking initiative, designed to bridge the skill gap in the sector, will train 25 selected candidates at IIGJ Jaipur. Under the program:
- JAJ will sponsor raw materials.
- JJS will cover training fees and provide stipends to trainees.
- MSME-DI Jaipur has lent its support under the Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Program (ESDP) scheme.
The partnership was formalised with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by all four organisations, underscoring their commitment to nurturing talent and advancing Jaipur’s jewellery industry.
Facilitating Industry Placement
Upon completing the training, the candidates will be placed in industry roles with the support of JAJ and SGJIA. This placement focus ensures the immediate application of newly acquired skills in real-world settings, directly benefiting Jaipur’s gems and jewellery ecosystem.
Aligning with National Goals
GJEPC has played a pivotal role in facilitating this partnership, aligning it with the Indian government’s broader objectives for skill development and employment generation.
A Future-Ready Workforce
As one of the world's leading hubs for coloured gemstones, Jaipur’s jewellery industry relies heavily on skilled craftsmanship. Initiatives like this not only address immediate workforce demands but also lay the foundation for long-term growth, ensuring the city’s continued prominence in the global gems and jewellery market.
This collaborative effort highlights the industry’s dedication to preserving traditional skills while adapting to contemporary needs.
