Indian maison earns global recognition for responsible luxury, achieving 73% score in ESG certification
Indian fine jewellery brand ANEKA has been awarded the prestigious Butterfly Mark Certification by Positive Luxury, joining a select group of global luxury houses recognised for their commitment to sustainability and ethical business practices. ANEKA secured an impressive 73% overall score, underscoring its leadership across environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria.
The Butterfly Mark is a symbol of trust in the luxury industry, awarded to brands that meet rigorous ESG standards verified by independent assessors. ANEKA scored particularly high in social impact (89%), governance (76%), and environmental performance (60%), affirming the Maison’s alignment with global benchmarks and its ongoing journey towards purpose-led growth.
“Partnering with Positive Luxury has been a journey of reflection and growth,” said Ankit Mehta, CEO of ANEKA. “It has sharpened our approach to ethical sourcing, environmental responsibility, and positive social change. We’re honoured to be part of this movement, knowing the choices we make today shape a more thoughtful and sustainable future.”
ANEKA’s practices are rooted in circularity and impact. All of its jewellery is handcrafted using 18K recycled gold, helping the brand save over 472 tonnes of CO? emissions in just two years. The company runs entirely on 100% renewable energy, with supply chain partners also committed to clean energy practices.
Its sourcing protocols ensure conflict-free diamonds that are RJC- and DTC-BPP-certified, fully compliant with the Kimberley Process. Coloured gemstones are carefully evaluated for environmental and social impact, and a robust Supplier and Vendor Code of Conduct enhances accountability across its ecosystem.
The Maison has achieved carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and is currently mapping Scope 3 impacts. A recent circularity initiative saw over 3.5 tonnes of paper waste recycled across its offices and boutiques. ANEKA also champions artisan empowerment, particularly supporting training and upskilling programmes for women artisans.
The Butterfly Mark, independently awarded by Positive Luxury, is one of the most comprehensive ESG certifications globally. Brands undergo a rigorous, year-long assessment and receive recertification every two years. It includes support from expert coaches to implement measurable sustainability practices and continuously improve operational impact.
For ANEKA, the certification is more than a milestone—it is a reflection of its philosophy that true luxury must be both beautiful and responsible.
